ANTITRUST & COMPETITION

ISSUE AREA
Over the past half-century, mounting consolidation across major industries has come at the expense of workers and consumers alike. As market power has concentrated in the hands of a select number of firms, both consumer choice and the broader social fabric have been undermined. The ability of a small number of corporations to accumulate disproportionate market power has contributed to democratic backsliding and the erosion of the rule of law.
Though often treated as an abstract concern, anti-competitive conduct has direct material ramifications for consumers and workers. Without competition or real guardrails, companies are incentivized to price-gouge, forcing consumers to pay more for essential products and services. Similarly, concentrated market power also limits opportunities and conditions for workers via mechanisms like noncompete agreements.
